Was Foote an admiral at the time he died in the US Civil War? IIRC he died of infection from wounds he received while commanding the river gunboats for Grant on the upper Mississippi.

Foote held the rank of Rear Admiral, but he died of kidney disease in New York; it had nothing to do with enemy action.
